Greener Sunscreens that won’t leave you Red – Tip #3 – 10 for 2010
Did you know the Environmental Working Group (EWG) found that 92% of brand name sunscreens either don’t sufficiently protect skin from sun damage or contain hazardous chemicals – or both?
Fortunately, there are a number of safe, effective sunscreens on the market and you can go to BuyGreen.com to get your safe sunscreen
Check out EWG’s 2010 Sunscreen Guide to find safer, mineral-based sunscreens including:
UV Naturals Soleo Sunscreen Miessence Body Balm
- The majority of sun damage occurs before the age of 18, so keep kids protected from too much sun exposure.
- Apply sunscreen frequently – reapply every two hours at a minimum.
- Stick to SPF 15-50.
- Apply generously – about a shot glass full to cover your body.
- Broad-spectrum is crucial. Look for broad-spectrum products that filter the UVA & UVB rays.
- Avoid sunscreen with Vitamin A (added to 41% of all sunscreens). An FDA study indicates that a form of vitamin A, retinyl palmitate, when applied to the skin in the presence of sunlight, may speed the development of skin tumors and lesions.
